A WARRINGTON runner is being hailed "world class" and tipped for the top following in the footsteps of Commonwealth Games gold medallist Paula Ratcliffe. Karrie Hawitt won the World cross-country under 17 trials earlier in the year following in the footsteps of Paula who achieved it in 1991. Karrie followed the success by winning the World Junior Mountain Running Gold Medal in Alaska September. Warrington born Mark Kinch, who won the British and English Fell Running Championships in 1994 and became the first person to retain the title in 1995 and is now the England Senior and Junior Fell Running team manager, says Karrie is not just a fantastic fell runner but is also a great cross-country and road runner. In addition to her achievements Karrie also holds the UK best time on the roads for 5km in an incredible time of 16:30, something very few senior male athletes can match. Mark puts her success down to her natural talent, the Welsh hills where she trains and her coaches training regime. Like Mark she travels regularly to Moel Fammau, where she loves training and finds the scenery "breathtaking." Mark added: "Karrie has a great future ahead of her and for someone who only turns 18 next March she has achieved a great deal. Warrington Athletic Club has a great athlete to inspire everyone in 2004 and hopefully for many years ahead. She is World Class!
