The Northern Inter County Athletics Championships took place at
Gateshead Stadium on Sunday 30th July with thirteen members of Warrington Athletic Club in the Cheshire team which finished in 4th place overall. Top performances came from Lauren Clark in the under 17 Women's Hammer where she smashed her own club under 17/Junior and Senior records with 30.28 metres. This was topped by Martyn Corcoran who demolished a club record 53.4 seconds set by Paul Sankey in 1969 in the under 15 boys 400 metres running a time of 52. 54 seconds finishing in 2nd place. Martyn had set his previous personal best time of 54. 0 seconds in the Young Athletes League match the previous Sunday. 

The only winner for Cheshire was Beth Hicken, who is a second claim
member of Warrington, in the under 15 girls 200 metres while Megan Tyler and Heather Timmins took second places in the under 17 women's High Jump and 1500 metres respectively and Hannah Tart ran a seasons fastest time in the under 17 women's 800 metres. 

In the under 17 men's 1500 metres Steeplechase Lawrence Walker had the
misfortune to hit the final hurdle and fall while heading for a personal
best time. Lawrence sat on the track stunned for a full minute before getting
to his feet and limping over the finish line.
