West Cheshire Athletic Club held the final meeting of their young athletes cross country league at Stanney Oak Ellesmere Port on Saturday 4th
March. Alex Smith was the only Warrington Athletic Club runner to take part and he recorded his first victory in the under 13 boys race since joining the
club with the league being decided on a best 3 from 4 races basis Alex also finished 2nd overall having finished 2nd in two of the previous races. In the under 9 girls overall Holly Tidd finished in 2nd place despite not running on Saturday. Three Warrington Athletic Club athletes took part in the under 17 AAA Indoor Championships held at The National Indoor Arena in Birmingham over the weekend of 4th/5th March. On the Saturday in the girls Hayley Darbyshire finished 3rd in her heat of the 200 metres in 27.17 seconds but failed to progress to the semi-final. In the boys 200 metres Peter Morgan won his heat in a personal best time of 23.38 secs before going out after finishing 5th in his semi-final with a time of 23.99 seconds. His training partner Luke Miller-Briggs went out in his heat finishing 3rd in a time of 23.91 seconds. All three returned on the Sunday for the 60 metres but failed to progress past the heats with Hayley finishing 4th in 8.22 seconds while Luke and Peter both finished in 5th place in theirs in times of 7.46 and 7.52 seconds respectively. |
