The
Inter County Cross Country Championships incorporating the Trials to
select the U.K.teams for the World Cross Country Championships were held
at Wollaton Park Nottingham on March 11th. Warrington Athletic Club were
represented in the Cheshire Teams by 21 athletes over 8 of the 12 races.
In the women's events the top performance of the day came from Heather
Timmins in the under 17 race where she finished in an excellent 14th
position.Heather along with Sarah Cartwright 55th helped Cheshire to win
the team competition.Also running in the race were Rheannon Rainford 110th
and Lucy Gemmell 124th. In the other races Lauren Stephens was 115th in
the under 20's,while Jade Llewellyn and Louise Sullivan finished in 64th
and 124th places respectively.In the under 13 race Rachel Jefferson
179th,Vicky Hamilton 234th,Katie Ashcroft 251st and Sophie Kerr 263rd were
the club's representatives. In the men's events the under 15's were again
the top club athletes with Matt Jackson 14th,Danny Cliffe 15th and Stephen
Broadhurst 17th helping the Cheshire team to finish in 4th position.Mike
Williams was the only other club runner in the race finishing in 109th
place. In the under 13 boys Tom Jervis finished in 48th place with Luke
Johnston 228th and Danny Jackson 292nd,while in the under 17 race Lawrence
Walker and Jason McGonigle finished in 58th and 174th places
respectively.In the under 20 men's race Mike Timmins was our only
representative finishing in 143rd place.
