The final match of the National Young Athletes League took place at
Queensway Stadium Wrexham on Sunday 23rd July with Warrington Athletic Club in a position to get promotion to the Northern Premier Division. With 4 of the top 5 clubs in the division taking part in the match it turned out to be
a very close thing with the result being in doubt till near the end of the day. There were many personal bests set during the day.

In the girls events Jessica Deakin in the under 13 age group was the
star of the day with a treble victory in the 75/150 metres and long
jump, while doubles were achieved by Rhian Heap (u/13 75/150m), Sarah
Griffiths (u/15 800mB/Javelin B), Hannah Tart (u/17 300mB/Discus B) and Vicky Nicholson (u/17 Long/Triple Jump). Personal Bests were achieved in the girls events by Sarah Griffiths (u/15 800M B), Vicky Nicholson (u/17 Triple Jump) Jade Llewellyn (u/15 Discus) and Hannah Tart (u/17 200m A).

In the boys events star performances of the day came from Martyn
Corcoran with a grade 1 time in winning the u/15 400 metres A in a
personal best time and James Sutton with a treble victory in the u/13
100/200m and Shot. Other excellent performances came from Chris Warburton making his debut for the club with a double victory in the u/15 Shot/Hammer and 2nd in the Discus, Peter Morgan also took a double victory in the u/17 100/200 metres B races. Other personal bests were achieved by Ryan O'Neill (u/13 800mA), Danny Cliffe (u/17 Discus B) and Chris Wort (u/17 Long/Triple Jump A).

Although everyone gave their best efforts on the day promotion eluded
the team as they finished in 2nd place behind Liverpool Pembroke in the
match. The other club in contention for promotion West Cheshire
should, barring a complete disaster, have won their match and taken the
promotion place along with Liverpool Pembroke. Warrington and
Bolton/Horwich, previously league leaders finished on the same league points but Bolton/Horwich take third place on total points scored over the season.
